Julia Carpenter is the second character to take on the mantle of Spider-Woman in Marvel Comics. Unlike Jessica Drew, whose powers were biologically based, Julia's abilities originated from a secret government experiment. She was unknowingly injected with a serum containing spider venom and radiation while participating in a supposed "athletic study."
This process granted her powers similar to Spider-Man, including superhuman strength, agility, and the ability to produce webs of psionic energy, which she can use for offense or defense. She can also use this energy to create psionic spider-legs.
Originally a member of the second incarnation of the Avengers West Coast, Julia has also been affiliated with teams like Omega Flight and Force Works. After Jessica Drew retired the Spider-Woman identity, Julia became the primary hero using the name. More recently, she has taken on the mantle of Arachne, and even Madame Web, gaining precognitive abilities.
Julia's history is complicated by government manipulation and heroic sacrifice, often separating her from her daughter, Rachel. Despite these challenges, she remains a dedicated hero within the Marvel Universe, known for her psionic webs and commitment to protecting others.
